Life in the slate is [Essence] based, making them extremely different from [Carbon Based lifeforms] of the earth. The most glaring differences from earth life are the more intense ecosystems, their interchangability, and the ability for species to adopt the ability of living in usually non-life supporting areas, like sapce. This fact makes all Kinds of life from Slate interchangable with enough ratio changes between the [Essences].

Most lifeforms can be seperated into four (or three) main groups called kinds, known as [Plants], [Animals], and their space varients, the [StarRoot] and [Cosminals], who are often reffered to as with the [VesselKind] umbrella term. [StarRoot] and [Cosminals] don't have significant changes from their Planet-Bound Counterparts, but have the side-effects of [Vessel Essence]. These kinds have varying physical, behavioral, and intellectual changes to the lifeform. These changes are prominent enough to differentiate between all of the kinds by only observing a lifeform for a couple of seconds or so. This article will go more in depth about the three major changes that comes with each kind inherintely.

Another very particular part of Biology in the slate is [Souls]. To put it simply, [Souls] have the ability to increase the intellegence of their linked body, but also give them [Sentience]. They also contain the memories, personality, and knowledge of the person. [Souls] are also known to form naturally at birth in species with very low rates of [Animal Essence]. This phenomenon, whoever, doesn't seem to happen in [VesselKind] specimens, but some still show effects of having souls despite that.

Kinds

The most effective way to change a specimen's Kind is with following (Temparary name)'s essence diagram. Plant => StarRoot, Cosminals => Animals, Animals => Plants, Cosminals => StarRoot. This model, more specifically the Animals and Cosminals to Plant and StarRoot interactions, is also respected by Evolution when species starts to change Kinds from necessary natural selection, though it does happen that it doesn't respect the diagram in some casses. Going against this diagram is possible, but will cost more Essence to do. No natural occuring Kind switching from Cosminals to Animals has been recording, although it is theorized to be possible with enough time.
